I hate saying depends, but depends. If this gadget was helping them learn how to build other gadgets, and children were learning to use this gadget with other children (so its social), then I think they should simply stop in order for eating, sleeping and toilet breaks. However, if the gadget is simply fun to play with but not really helping them think or learn any other skills then maybe limit to a short while a day.

Please don’t ask me what a good gadget is!
