  For over 10 years! I actually started when i was 13, whenever we went on holiday all my family wanted to do was sit on the beach but i wanted to be out under the waves. So after a lot of nagging they finally let me do my PADI open water qualification on holiday in Turkey.
  
  It was hard work and every night i was revising while my sister was having fun, but i got to scuba dive every day so it was worth it.
  
  You have to be 18 to get your full PADI open water certificate which means you can dive anywhere in the world but you can still learn if you are younger than 13 there are just a few more restrictions, see http://www.padi.com/scuba/padi-courses/diver-level-courses/kids-courses/
  
  and many years later I’m not a PADI Divemaster and teach at my local pool on Saturday nights!

Assume this question was just for Sarah-Jane, who is much more qualified to answer, but in case, I am a tourist scuba diver – only dive where it’s warm. I am a qualified cave diver though. First learnt in the ‘Cenotes’ in Mexico. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cenote+cavern+diving
