We are still finding out. Basically, when we experience something our brain captures information from our senses – what something looks like, feels like, sounds like etc. when we remember something, our brain ‘plays back’ some of these senses. But not always very accurately. So we often invent certain bits. However, rather than think of our brain as a computer memory, think of why we choose to remember certain things. Often we ‘remember’ things together with friends – we change what really happened to tell a better story.
